An excellent first novel. It was easy to get lost in the story of SAM and that is a testament to the talents of this first time novelist. Luke F Harris writes with a confidence that I have only experienced in stories from long-time authors. The story of SAM never lags, and although it deals with the bittersweet complications of all kinds of relationships, Luke F Harris handles each scene with unflinching honesty and profound compassion. This genre is not one I usually read, but I am so glad I did. It's a must-read.
The style of writing was unique, the tale superb.
For a first novel, it was a first in all its elements.
I cried, cried and read throughout the tears couldn't stop. Dawn has broken and I feel perfect. Thank you Luke Harris for a lot. I feel very much alive.
First review I have ever felt a need to write, and I have a library of 1723 digital books I have purchased since 11-20-2012, and I've read every one of them. I laughed, cried and fully enjoyed every line of this book. It may have helped that I had a 33 year gay relationship myself and many of the things that Tom & Sam experienced were so familiar to me. It may have had a somewhat sad ending but it was so uplifting to feel that there is
sometimes a reason to go on living even after a great love is over.
An astoundingly good read. The author captures the title character as a conflicted young man in New Zealand, and lets us understand his aspirations and heartaches. Although not told chronologically, the telling was handled expertly. A great plot, great dialog, great characters, and a painful yet hopeful ending.
Really enjoyed this book! It tugged at the heartstrings and left an imprint that's for sure! Not only was it a great story, I enjoyed the flow and pace of the writing, and overall is an excellent read! As a New Zealander myself, it was amazing and refreshing to read a novel based in my country, and I can almost picture and smell and see the places in this book. AWESOME
My, oh, my. I have read many, many books and few of them have made me cry. Especially when, from the first chapter, the reader knows what the end game is. But Sam did it to me. It's a touching story of two men who fall in love and the obstacles they face to stay together. This is Mr. Harris's first novel. I simply can not wait to read more of his work! Absolutely a must read!
I have been reading my ebooks books in alphabetical order by author. I just have too many to choose from and can’t decide what to read next. So when I got to SAM I didn’t know anything about it. I don’t read the synopsis of a book prior to starting them. This story sucked me in. It’s not told in chronological order, so you learn a few things and then get the back story. Luke F Harris gave us a touching debut book. Looking forward to more stories from him. 4.75 for Awesome friends.
